Rainy Day & Severe Weather Dismissal Procedures
At Somerset Academy West Vero, the safety of our students, families, and staff is our priority. During periods of rain, lightning, or severe weather, dismissal procedures may be adjusted to ensure everyone remains safe. Delays should be expected.
Lightning & Severe Weather
Dismissal will be temporarily held when lightning is detected within a 2-mile radius of the school.
During a lightning hold, students and staff will remain safely inside the building, and students will not be released to vehicles, buses, or walk-up dismissal areas until it is safe to resume dismissal.
Once conditions are determined to be safe, dismissal will resume. Families will be notified if weather conditions result in a significant delay or change to our normal dismissal procedures via the school’s REMIND app.
For everyone's safety, parents and guardians should remain in their vehicles during a weather-related dismissal.
We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our families as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.
Student safety will always take priority over dismissal speed.
